New Third Ward music festival coming in August
Cream City Music Festival will feature mix of national and local bands
Sam Roberts Band
They don’t call Milwaukee the city of festivals for nothing—we grow ’em in this town like Idaho harvests potatoes. Another festival just sprang up in the Third Ward: The first-ever Cream City Music Festival will take place Aug. 8 in Catalano Square, and feature national touring acts Sam Roberts Band and Gringo Starr as well as local favorites The Championship and Invade Rome. Music will start at 3 p.m. and it’s absolutely free.
Decider is particularly excited about seeing Sam Roberts, a long-time favorite from Canada who’s never been able to get any traction in this country. An unapologetic plunderer of classic rock—his latest record Love At The End Of The World kind of sounds like Paul McCartney fronting The Who—Roberts is one of the best pop-rock craftsmen working today. Live, Roberts is a big ol’ cheeseball—he’s been compared to Bruce Springsteen, but his excitable antics are more reminiscent of Peter Frampton. (Believe it or not, that’s a compliment.) Below is the video for “The Gate” from Roberts’ best record, 2006’s Chemical City.
