New Year's Eve show with Spoon and Jay Reatard at Riverside Theater
Ring in 2010 with two very different acts
It seems strange to already be thinking about New Year's Eve when we haven't even gotten our Halloween on yet. But the folks at Riverside Theater are asking Milwaukeeans to plan ahead a bit after announcing its annual New Year's Eve show featuring a very interesting double bill: indie-rock institution Spoon and garage rock hooligan Jay Reatard. On the one hand it seems entirely appropriate to close out the '00s with Spoon—there's probably no other band that's had a better decade creatively than Britt Daniel and Co. From 2001's Girls Can Tell up through 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, the band simply released one classic record after another during the otherwise depressing Bush years. Reatard, on the other hand, seems far too untamed for Riverside Theater—even his own band can't take him. Of course, we love Reatard here at A.V. Club Milwaukee—this interview from last year is one of our favorites of all-time. If there's anybody we want to get drunk with on the last day of '09, it's Reatard.
Tickets for this big soiree go on sale at noon Oct. 23 through the Pabst and Riverside box offices, and are $55.
