Radio Milwaukee, WMSE team up for "live mash-up" series

Amid the flurry of musical activity happening outside of Summerfest this weekend is a very cool “live mash-up” event conceived by Tarik Moody of Radio Milwaukee and DJ John Goelzer (a.k.a. BTS.WORKING) of WMSE. It’s called Unlooped, and it’s a new monthly electronic music series featuring collaborations with artists from various genres. The first installment of Unlooped takes place at 10 p.m. tonight at B-Side (235 S. Second St.) with Nick Sanborn of Decibully and Headlights joining up with Jeanna Salzer and Rory Sazma. The show will also be a CD release party for Milwaukee’s Lorn, who is dropping his record Nothing Else on Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder.

The plan is for Sanborn and Sazma to perform several co-written instrumentals before being joined by Salzer for a set of “new, hazy interpretations of jazz standards,” Moody tells A.V. Club Milwaukee.

A second edition is already in the works for July 30 with area hip-hop producer Dave Olson and Allen Cote of The Championship. “We are planning to attempt to record every session and post them online at unlooped.net,” Moody says. “The main goal of the evening is the let artist to have fun and create something special and unique. We also want to invite DJs who never get a chance to spin stuff they would never spin at other places as well.”
