News Net Riverwest gets its own musical, IfIHadAHiFi gets dissed

Riverwest...the musical?

More News Net

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the week.

• According to Madison Magazine, former Milwaukee playwright Eric Theis has completed a musical called Riverwest: A Rhapsody! The production deals with Theis’ old Milwaukee stomping grounds, and explores “race, privilege, gentrification, and more.” Come for the Rent-like musical performances, stay for the tale of a “young black man faced with difficult decisions between family life and thug life.”

• IfIHadAHiFi’s anti-Scott Walker ditty, “Imperial Walker,” has been causing quite a stir. In a piece entitled “Moshing For Labor,” the song is sarcastically praised by the not-so-sarcastically conservative National Review. “IfIHadAHiFi: No room for the space bar, no room for compromise.” Kudos, National Review. Kudos.

• According to the Journal Sentinel, American Idol contestant—and Milwaukee native—Naima Adedapo wiggled her way into the top 10 as a wild card pick on last night’s show. So far, Adedapo has followed in the footsteps of the Green Bay Packers. Somewhere, Danny Gokey quivers in fear.

• Another area Blockbuster is headed to that big drop box in the sky, according to OnMilwaukee.com. The store in the East Pointe Marketplace strip mall will close April 10, giving customers plenty of time to pick up discounted Transmorphers DVDs, as well as some sweet Bob Marley and Scarface posters.

• DIY and underage house shows are just a few of the subjects discussed by Milwaukee promoter Kelsey Kaufmann and SNAP Milwaukee.
