Riverwest Public House continues its opening-week celebration with live shows

We’re both excited and intrigued by the arrival of Riverwest’s newest bar, the Riverwest Public House. Excited because, hey, we like bars, and intrigued because the Public House (located in the old Riverwest Commons space at 815 E. Locust St.) is a co-op tavern. In fact, it’s one of only two co-op bars in the entire country.

But what does that mean for your average, every-day Milwaukeean who just wants a cheap drink? Well, those drinks can be made even cheaper by becoming a member. Just $40 will get you a yearly membership in the Public House, and $200 will make you a member for life. Drink discounts, voting rights, and bragging rights will subsequently be yours.

The bar opened its collectively owned doors earlier this week, and has been celebrating with a string of events. The schedule for the rest of the week looks especially promising: Tomorrow night finds the Public House paying tribute to its punk roots with live performances from Holy Shit!, Head On Electric, and Empire Builder, while an official grand opening party is scheduled for Friday, April 8, and will feature live music from The Squeezettes.
