Big ups to local music blog Muzzle Of Bees to hipping us to Sat. Nite Duets, a Milwaukee band that shares The A.V. Club’s enthusiasm for 1) sharply written and sloppily recorded rock songs and 2) slamming beers with your naked bros in the shower. SND’s 2010 six-song EP, One Nite Only, sounds like the first half of a potentially great album, with this loose collective of college-age drinking buddies showing an equally high aptitude for vintage ’90s-era indie rock (the stellar “All Nite Long”), loose-limbed Basement Tapes-style Americana (“Funeral On 6th Street”), twisty-turny arena-rock ragers (“The Sweltering Summer”), and slyly soulful slacker-pop (“Peel Away”). We honestly can’t stop listening to this, and we haven’t even gotten around to Sat. Nite Duets' 2009 release yet, which is also available for free download. See you at the next show, guys.
