We admit we were drawn to Milwaukee sludge metal band Slob Donovan because of its incredibly awesome band name, which pays tribute to The A.V. Club’s favorite local alderman and art critic, Bob Donovan. But songs like “Liberation Day,” and especially “Kill All Redneck Pricks” (which are streaming on the band’s MySpace page), boast the same kind of up-front brashness and disregard for social niceties that we’ve come to appreciate from the original Slob Donovan. According to the band’s Facebook page, Slob Donovan is in serious need of a van at the moment, though it should be able to make its Dec. 19 show at Mad Planet. In the meantime, let’s hope nobody in Slob Donovan gets hung up by their Buster Browns over this funny appropriation of AlderBob’s moniker.
