So long, and thanks for all the quirk: Pezzettino leaving Milwaukee

Milwaukee's very own accordion-wielding, car-repair-needing, brownie-making phenom, Pezzettino—a.k.a. Margaret Stutt—announced Wednesday via Facebook she'll be packing up her ebullient, one-woman act and moving it to Brooklyn. "I've been on the edge of the diving board, staring at my feet, contemplating diving into Brooklyn for over a year, and now I'm finally jumping," Stutt told The A.V. Club. "Brooklyn is a playground—an overwhelming amount of artists and musicians create there—and I'm inspired, motivated, and reinforced in that environment."

In little over a year, Pezzettino has managed to ingratiate herself with the Milwaukee music scene, carving out a unique niche and proving to be a preternatural self-promoter. Lest anyone think that the recent WAMI and 88Nine Milwaukee Music Award winner is callously turning her back on the city that spawned her, Stutt vows to keep the hometown flame alive. "My love for Milwaukee is steadfast," she says. "I'm extremely grateful for the support this city has given me, and will represent the Midwest with gusto out in the jungle." Stutt says she intends to spend her time in Brooklyn playing and attending shows, meeting like-minded artists, and "drinking Pabst with pride." Atta girl.

A farewell show is set for May 1 at The Eagle's Nest, though Stutt will be back in town on June 5 to play the newly minted Verge Music Festival. While we're certainly sad to see her go, The A.V. Club wishes Pezzettino nothing but the best of luck on her cross-county move. Here's hoping her car makes it.
