Summerfest announces new "alternative and modern rock festival"

Yes, it sounds like something from 1993, but it's a start

Here at The A.V. Club, we’ve spent a significant amount of time chiding Summerfest officials over the festival packing its schedule with country, classic rock, and cover bands. We’re not alone in this, of course, and it appears the good people at the Big Gig are paying attention. Milwaukee World Festival has just announced plans for a new “alternative and modern rock festival” that will take place June 4-5 at the Summerfest grounds. Sure, the fact that they’re calling it an “alternative and modern rock festival” doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence, but it’s a start! The festival will feature three stages as well as (and we’re quoting from the press release here) “action sports competitions, marketplace shopping and interactive exhibits for young adult music fans.”

But before all you young adults can enjoy your alternative music and action sports competitions, we have to get down to the business of naming this thing. Summerfest is calling for suggestions for potential names and brands for the festival. Just go here to get started. Submissions will be accepted until Feb. 21, and the public will choose the winner over the course of a week starting March 1. On March 10, the winner will be announced, along with a preliminary music lineup.
