Just when you thought the swamp-reality genre had run out of colorful hillbilly-types to follow around on their daily gator-rasslin’ excursions, along comes A&E’s Duck Dynasty. At first glance, it would appear that the network is scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to swamp-related activities to cover on a weekly basis. The design, manufacture, and distribution of handmade duck calls may not sound like the makings of compelling television, but while it shares some of the flaws associated with this particular brand of reality TV, Duck Dynasty does have a charismatic, likable cast of characters at its center, and has become one of the most popular shows on television.
In keeping with Pabst/Riverside/Turner’s tradition of bringing non-traditional events to town, four members of the Duck Dynasty cast will take part in a live “Tales From The Duck Commanders” panel discussion Thursday, November 14 at the Riverside Theater. Phil, Kay, Korie, and Uncle Si will appear at the Milwaukee-only event (sponsored by Mills Fleet Farm, natch) to share stories, answer questions, and, presumably, talk about ducks. Reserved seating tickets are $46.50, and include a “Duck Commander gift pack” featuring autographed copies of Si-Cology by Si Robertson and Miss Kay’s Duck Commander Kitchen by Kay Robertson. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 16 at noon.
