The 2011 Miltown Beat Down gets underway tonight

Last month, the Miltown Beat Down began accepting submissions for its 2011 competition. The annual event was created six years ago by Jordan Lee—a.k.a DJ Madhatter from the Rusty Ps—to give local hip-hop producers a chance to showcase their stuff. After receiving a whopping 68 applications, Lee eventually whittled the number of participants down to a more manageable 32. After months of anticipation, the first battle is set to begin tonight at the Wicked Hop/Jackalope Lounj at 10 p.m.

Following tonight’s round, three more preliminary battles will be held over the next three weeks. Each round will feature eight producers vying for two final spots. The finals will be held June 10 at Turner Hall.
