The Flaming Lips at Riverside Theater
More Just Announced
Given The Flaming Lips' brush with the Oklahoma House of Representatives (which rejected “Do You Realize??” as the state song over a little obscenity and communist imagery on a band member’s T-shirt), their psych/sci-fi feature film, Christmas On Mars, and their highly theatrical and confetti-based live show, it’s sometimes easy to forget that they, you know, make music. Last year’s Embryonic—a sprawling behemoth of psych-rock that touched on the all the acid trips and ingenious studio flourishes that made the band so exciting in the first place—was a grand reminder of just how good this band can be. (The band’s new redux of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon isn’t bad either.)
With the Lips on such a roll lately, it should be an appropriately mind-blowing experience to see them April 21 at Riverside Theater. Tickets go on sale at noon Feb. 26, though the venue’s eMembers can get them starting on Monday. Otherwise stay tuned to A.V. Club Milwaukee, as we’ll be giving away tickets in the weeks ahead.
