Newswire The Flaming Lips/Bon Iver Record Store Day collab is “fucked up in the good way,” covered in blood

The rough beast known as Record Store Day is currently slouching its way toward your nearest record store (if you have one), and will arrive April 21. Among all the reissues and super-special limited edition baloney will be a collaboration between The Flaming Lips and Eau Claire, Wisconsin’s unstoppable Bon Iver. The song, “Ashes In The Air,” will be part of a larger Lips compilation album entitled The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends. Nick Cave, Yoko Ono, Ke$ha, Neon Indian, Biz Markie, and Chris Martin of Coldplay are just some of the other artists included on the album. Sinatra’s Duets this ain’t.

As for “Ashes In The Air,” it’s pretty much what you would expect from Bon Iver and the modern-day Flaming Lips: distorted, trippy, and full of lines like “You’re fucked up in the good way, / and I’m fucked up in the bad.” Oh, and because gummi skull-vagina packaging would just seem silly at this point, Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has announced that some copies of Heady Fwends will come packaged with the blood of some of its contributors. There’s no word on whether any of Bon Iver’s collective blood will be included, though it’s a safe bet that Yoko would probably be down for that kind of shit. [via Pitchfork]
