Just Announced The Polyphonic Spree at Turner Hall

The choral, symphonic pop-rock band The Polyphonic Spree can be a little scary, as it has 24 members who are usually all dressed alike in either robes or fatigues, creating a kind of new-age rock choir. The result is music that’s perfect for climactic scenes in movies or Lorax trailers, or (if you’re less cynical) grandiose music that takes the power of church songs but leaves the Jesus-y pushiness at the door. Its last record is 2007’s The Fragile Army, a jubilant effort that’s just as imposing as 2004’s Together We’re Heavy. After record label woes, the group took to forming its own label and is releasing one new song at a time. Now the band is touring for the first time in four years, adding Midwest and East Coast dates to previously announced West Coast tour stops. The band will stop at Turner Hall on May 15. General admission tickets are $20, and go on sale Friday, March 9.
