The Scarring Party will play its last show of 2011 tonight at the Riverwest Public House
One of our favorite records of 2010 was The Scarring Party’s terrific Losing Teeth. The album was just as macabre and off-kilter as you might expect from a band that regularly uses a typewriter as an instrument, but it also happened to be wickedly funny. We’re also big fans of the group’s live shows, which tend to be just as surreal and delightful. Sadly, a new Scarring Party show may be hard to come by, at least for the remainder of 2011. The band has announced that it will play its last show of the year tonight at the Riverwest Public House.
“I’ve been sitting on songs for a very different kind of record for a couple of years,” Scarring Party frontman Daniel Bullock tells The A.V. Club. “There was never going to be time to finish it unless we took a break.”
That break, however unfortunate, seems well-deserved. Though Bullock and company haven’t been working on a new record, they’ve been busy nonetheless. “After tour, we released a free EP of song portraits we had written for patrons that supported our West Coast tour. As a result of the tour, film music, and the EP, we aren’t anywhere near starting another record. We need to recharge. Six years of swimming against the current is pretty exhausting.”
So if you find yourself with a few minutes to spare amidst all the other insanity going on tonight (Radio Summer Camp, Riverwest 24, Gallery Night, etc.), stop by the Public House at 8 p.m. and catch the final Scarring Party show of 2011. Here’s hoping things get creepy again in 2012.
