They Might Be Giants take next logical step, team up with online role-playing game
Having left the world of toddler-rock behind for the adult-oriented pleasures of this year’s Join Us, Brooklyn troubadours They Might Be Giants are staying true to their aging indoor-kid fanbase by lending their talents to a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG, if you’re nasty). Tomorrow, Johns Linnell and Flansburgh will be featured in an in-game anniversary celebration for AdventureQuest Worlds, an online RPG that isn’t named World Of Warcraft. Call it a semi-new MMORPG for 2011.
In an event titled “The Collector, ” players will attempt to escape the clutches of the titular Collector, and will encounter several cut-scenes voiced by Linnell and Flansburgh along the way. Plenty of TMBG tunes will also be featured, including “Dr. Worm,” “Ana Ng,” “When Will You Die,” and, according to a press release, “at least one never-before-heard song produced and recorded specifically for the AdventureQuest Worlds third birthday event.” And thus marks the first time a song has debuted in a video game, unless you count that old Aerosmith Revolution X game, which you shouldn’t.
If you happen to miss tomorrow’s event, don’t worry—the Giants will be in town Oct. 28 at the Pabst Theater, where they can be enjoyed sans keyboard and high-speed broadband.
