Welcome to the week: April 15-20
After months of dreary weather and diminished entertainment options, it can be quite a shock when spring (sort of) returns, and there are suddenly 8,000 things happening at once. Take this coming Saturday, for instance, when Milwaukee finally tears off its snow pants, donates its moon boots to Goodwill, and gets down to the business of being deeply, ridiculously awesome. The inaugural installment of Psych Fest takes hold of the Cactus Club Friday and Saturday with a murderer’s row of psych-minded local and national bands. (Check out our feature on the fest later this week, and our recap next Monday.) Hip-hop fans will also find something to shout about on Saturday, when local rappers Dana Coppafeel and SPEAK Easy celebrate the release of their new EP, Uni.Fi Records Presents…Dana Coppafeel and SPEAK Easy at Mad Planet. And if your tastes hew closer to Americana, the local folk-rockers in The Thriftones are celebrating the release of their new album Saturday at Linneman’s. Sheesh.
But there’s more. Saturday also finds two local doers-of-cool-shit, Alverno Presents and Cedar Block, teaming up for May The Schwartz Be With You at Turner Hall. (You can read all about the show on Wednesday, but suffice it to say, it is not a one-man performance of Spaceballs.) Saturday is also Record Store Day, which will be celebrated in high style by the Milwaukee Exclusive Company with in-store performances from Trapper Schoepp And The Shades, Vic And Gab, and more. Double sheesh.
Oh, and Saturday is also 4/20, which is funny or whatever. Enjoy!
