Turner Hall will host free My Morning Jacket viewing party May 31

More Just Announced
As part of the ongoing Vevo and American Express “Unstaged” concert series—and to celebrate the release of its new album, Circuital—My Morning Jacket will be live streaming its May 31 concert from the Palace Theater in Louisville, Kentucky. And for local fans with dicey broadband connections and/or barely-functioning NetZero accounts, the fine folks at Turner Hall will be hosting a free screening of the show. Oh, and the whole thing will be directed by Velvet Goldmine’s Todd Haynes.
Like previous “Unstaged” musician/director pairings (Arcade Fire/Terry Gilliam, Duran Duran/David Lynch), the mash-up of My Morning Jacket and Haynes should prove to be intriguing. Based on evidence from the filmmaker’s Bob Dylan mind-fuck, I’m Not There, we can only imagine that MMJ frontman Jim James (who briefly appeared in the film) will be played by approximately 14 different people. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon seems like a shoo-in to portray the wild-and-wooly singer, though one should never rule out Cate Blanchett.
The Tuesday, May 31 viewing party begins at 8 p.m., and will be preceded by an all-you-can-drink, $10 happy hour-and-a-half. Fans can expect a large screen—the same used for Turner Hall’s “Beer And A Movie” series—and a chance to win T-shirts, posters, and copies of Circuital. The A.V. Club is also sponsoring the band’s next in-person Milwaukee appearance, June 16 at the Riverside.
