Von Trier gets new owners

The East Side bar is set to reopen in December

One of our favorite East Side hangouts, Von Trier (2235 N. Farwell Ave.), appears to have a new lease on life, according to OnMilwaukee.com, which reported Thursday that John and Cindy Sidoff have purchased the building from prior owner Mark Eckert. The Sidoffs, who own Hooligans across the street, plan to reopen in December, and it appears that they’re determined to retain the old Von Trier’s cozy, European charm. The deal comes after a bid by local restaurant group Diablos Rojos fell through. "I was really worried that somebody might come in there and turn it into a kid place,” Sidoff told OMC. “It deserves to be what it is right now. The last thing I wanted was to see the place turned into a $15 all you can drink place.” Hear, hear. Eckert will have a going-away party tonight with regulars until 11 p.m.
