The Wisconsin Area Music Industry—or WAMI, if you’re into the whole acronym thing—has long been a whipping-boy of the cool-kid music scene. The organization’s annual awards aim to honor the very best of Wisconsin music-makers, but seem to only recognize bands that have scored record deals in the last few years, and/or the BoDeans.
The just-announced 2011 nominees are a typical mixed-bag, but there are a handful of names we can actually get behind. At this rate, the awards might be kinda sorta relevant in a few years—that is until WAMI-favorite (and scrappy local band) Garbage puts out a new album.
