Roughly nine months ago, Ron Diaz had an epiphany. He would film himself drinking a different beer each Friday night, and sternly but fairly review the various brews. It was a noble, lofty, and ambitious goal, and he stuck to it for the good of beer aficionados the world over, and because he knew he needed to. With over 160 videos, he has tasted the golden tingles of Grain Belt to Hamms, of Schlitz to Keystone, and even Polygamy Porter. Last week, Diaz’s “Bad Beer Friday” series (which was briefly dubbed “Boozin’ and Reviewin’” for a modest two episodes) found its way to our own backyard. Yes, Diaz recently choked down a Milwaukee’s Best—and a Milwaukee’s Best Light to boot. Let us watch.
The review, regrettably, is a negative one. Diaz, who makes it clear that he has definite plans to make wings that night and also that he has chips, seems churlish and unimpressed from the get-go as he takes his first thoughtful sips. Or maybe he isn’t unimpressed, because nowhere in the video does Diaz actually comment on the quality of the beer. In fact, he more or less just listlessly wanders around his apartment, while casually commenting on the items on his counters while drinking from a chilled wine glass, and occasionally burping.
Wait a minute, why are we even taking advice from this guy, anyway? He has a Bud Light poster on his wall and had the audacity to call Milwaukee’s Best a “bad beer!” Bah! There goes all his credibility!
Ron Diaz’s weekly “Bad Beer Friday” can be seen on his RonDiaz23 channel. Stay tuned, because a hot-sauce review is presumably on the way for next week.
