Watch the Bon Iver/Roots jam session that was never meant to be
Last month, it was announced that Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon would make good with mortal enemy ?uestlove by sitting in with The Roots for an episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Sadly, that session never aired, leading America to speculate about whether it had really happened in the first place, or if it was all just a folky, funky fever dream.
But the session did happen, as this newly released video on Late Night’s website attests. In the video, Vernon hooks up with The Roots for a decidedly different (and longer) take on “Perth,” turning it into an impressive, extended jam. Say what you will about Bon Iver (you will, wont you?), but it’s a pretty terrific clip, even if Vernon’s vocals will have some listeners crawling up the walls. Brace yourselves for some serious AutoTune, people.
