We exalt Laarks: Go see yet another great Eau Claire band Saturday at Club Garibaldi
It’s no secret that Eau Claire has one of the state’s highest great bands per capita rates, but equally impressive is the diversity of sounds that continue to pour out of the northwestern Wisconsin town. Coming on the heels of Bon Iver’s chilly isolationist folk and The Daredevil Christopher Wright’s charmingly eclectic pop is Laarks, a big-sounding quartet heavily indebted to ’90s indie-rock and the monumental drumming of Brian Moen, who transports singer-songwriter Ian Jacoby’s pleasingly melodic, Fender Rhodes-heavy songs from 720 pixels to epic, widescreen HD . We’ve been spinning Laarks’ 2009 debut, An Exaltation Of Laarks, all week in anticipation of the band’s show Saturday at Club Garibaldi with Conrad Plymouth and Surgeons In Heat. We suggest you head out tomorrow night and pick up the record. In the meantime, here’s Laarks performing “Telephone” at the Eau Claire music club The Stone’s Throw.
