Weezer, AFI to play Summerfest's modern rock festival
More Just Announced
So, Summerfest’s much discussed “alternative and modern rock festival” finally has a name. Drum roll please … it’s Verge! You know, because this festival is totally di-“verging” from the norm, man! (Congratulations to Milwaukee area resident Katie Kostuck, who submitted the winning idea.) We love the name Verge, if only because we no longer have to refer to this thing as Summerfest’s “alternative and modern rock festival.” Also announced late yesterday afternoon was a current lineup of bands, which is headed up by Weezer. Unfortunately, this is the 2010 version of Weezer, which means the set will likely be heavy on Lady Gaga covers. But still, given Rivers Cuomo's new-found sense of showmanship, it should definitely be entertaining. Also on the bill are AFI, Three Days Grace, Crash Kings, Eagles Of Death Metal, Cold War Kids, The Raveonettes, Rogue Wave, She & Him, Nico Vega, Reni Lane, Jaill, The Championship, Figureheads, Geri X, Pezzettino, 1956, Red Knife Lottery, Invade Rome, Revision Text, and Juniper Tar. There will also be Pro-Am skateboard and BMX competitions, because apparently people still like that stuff.
Tickets for the festival “are limited,” according to the press release, so act accordingly. Single day passes are a cheap $25, and two-day passes are $40. (Tickets at the gate will be $35.) They go on sale at 10 a.m. today at yourmusicfest.com.
