Welcome to the week: June 24-30
And so it begins.
In case you’re concerned about that low, dull roar emanating from the lake, don’t fret: It’s just the mating call of Summerfest, which kicks off this Wednesday. We know, we know: The Big Gig is about as cool and cutting-edge as New Kids On The Block (July 2), and the backlash against Summerfest-backlash has probably already swung back to being just plain old backlash by now. Still, this year’s lineup has some great names. Don’t believe us? Head over to our online events calendar and check out some of the acts slated for opening day. Go ahead. We’ll wait…
See? Violent Femmes! Avett Brothers! Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Sure, the rest of the fest doesn’t quite live up to the modest opening day hype (read more about our thoughts on this year’s lineup tomorrow), but there’s still nothing better than wandering around the Summerfest grounds during the early afternoon, taking in the sights (drunk picnic-table dancing) and sounds (lots of cover bands) of Milwaukee in full-on festival mode. (Be sure to check out our daily Summerfest recaps, too.)
And if Summerfest just isn’t your bag, there’s always She & Him at the Riverside Theater June 28, the always-awesome Burnhearts/Pabst Street Party June 29, The Scarring Party and Hello Death at the Riverwest Public House June 29, and Caveman at Cactus Club June 30 . If you’re not completely burnt out by this time next week, you’re clearly doing summer in Milwaukee wrong.
Oh, and this is happening at Stonefly June 28:
