The strange, heady days of hiding in your buddy’s trunk so you could see Pink Floyd The Wall at the 41 Twin are sadly long gone. But that doesn’t mean all of your outdoor movie options are dried up—might we suggest Milwaukee’s Bike-In Movie Series? On the second Friday of the month (June–October), the series screens a different movie across the street from Trocadero, under the Holton Street viaduct. The flicks are free, family friendly, and they begin at dusk. And if there’s a better place to watch a movie than under a viaduct, we’re not aware of it.
The series is sponsored by a number of bike-friendly groups, including our pals at Breakaway Bicycle Couriers. This Friday, pedal-pushing moviegoers will enjoy the first flick of the season: Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Long before Indiana Jones was flying around in refrigerators and saving the world from shitty CGI aliens (and long before Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had gone completely off the rails), the intrepid “obtainer of rare antiquities” was kicking serious ass in one of the best action-adventure films to come out of the ’80s. From the opening “giant boulder” sequence to that part where the Nazis gets their faces melted off, Raiders has it all. And don’t even think of calling it Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark, because that would be dumb. Like this:
