Win tickets and a free trip to Chicago via Amtrak Hiawatha for Tea Leaf Green at Lincoln Hall

Each month, The Onion and The A.V. Club will send one lucky winner and a friend to a concert in Chicago, along with a pair of roundtrip Amtrak Hiawatha tickets. This month, we’re giving away tickets to check out Tea Leaf Green at Lincoln Hall Jan. 20. Ha Ha Tonka opens the show at 9 p.m.
If it’s a sound even remotely associated with the jam circuit—from easygoing piano-rockers to funky wah-wah scribbles—the San Francisco group can play it with an admirably natural feel. The band, with help from producer David Lowery of Cracker, keeps its loyalties with the Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead side of the kingdom on the 2008 studio album, Raise Up The Tent, focusing on earthy guitar sounds and strolling keyboards. 2010’s Looking West had its share of burly, earthy moments too, and last year’s Radio Tragedy! finds a new bass player and second drummer joining the fold. Like Widespread Panic, Tea Leaf Green often seems to care as much about writing songs and honoring its influences as it does about jamming, giving the band a healthy sense of grounding.
