All-City People's Parade at Zeidler Park

Milwaukee Public Theatre has been laboring in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes for the last 30 years, but the nonprofit theater company won’t be taking Labor Day off. Instead, MPT brings it unapologetic communitarian spirit to its second annual All-City People's Parade, a free event that promises naked idealism, in-your-face defiance of big money, and lots of other pinko hippie values. MPT has brought together dozens of groups and scores of artists and musicians to create a spectacle in the vein of Chicago's Redmoon or Minneapolis' Heart Of The Beast puppet theaters; using all-volunteer labor and scavenged materials, they've built ideological and relentlessly optimistic floats. The 2010 All-City People's Parade starts at Zeidler Park at 11 a.m., moves down Wisconsin and Milwaukee Avenues to Meier Festival Park, where they will perform for free the “Waking Up” Parade Revue at 12 p.m. in front of the Miller Stage.
