Alverno Presents: Trisha Brown Dance Company at Pitman Theater
It’s time to take a deep breath, relax, and get over our collective fear of postmodern dance. Choreographer Trisha Brown is a legend in her field—hell, even we’ve heard of her—who first received acclaim when she began showing her work with the avant-garde Judson Dance Theater in the ’60s. In 1970, Brown formed the Trisha Brown Dance Company, which soon became one of the top contemporary groups in the country. Since then, Brown has received a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, and has continued to push the limits of modern dance. Tonight’s Alverno Presents show will include a new piece from Brown’s company, the wonderfully titled “I’m Going To Toss My Arms—If You Catch Them They’re Yours,” which examines the inherent beauty in everyday gestures.
