Marc Ballini and Ryan Ogburn have long had a weekly residency at East Side club The Jazz Estate, though the local musicians veer more toward jam band-style improvisation rather than straight up jazz. Ogburn plays mandolin in the popular local jam act Stealin’ Strings, and he and singer-songwriter-pianist Ballini started playing with guitarist Jay Baumann of Fat Maw Rooney in spring 2008. But Ballini, Ogburn, and Baumann are more interested in providing a soulful backdrop for one of Milwaukee’s most laidback bars, so the instrumental pyrotechnics are kept to a minimum most of the time.
