Cynics rushed to lump Jared Leto’s goth-rock band 30 Seconds To Mars together with Dogstar, 30 Odd Foot Grunts, and other misbegotten musical movie star vanity projects. But Jared Leto got the last laugh when the band’s 2005 album, The Beautiful Lie, went on to go platinum and dominate alt-rock radio. Four years later, 30 Seconds To Mars has finally released This Is War, in album delayed at least in part by a contract-related lawsuit filed by Virgin Records. The band is joined at this holiday show sponsored by local radio station 102.1 by Australia's Sick Puppies, who sound ridiculously at ease in their adopted American home, or at least amid the modern-rock and emo hordes.
