Built To Spill at Turner Hall Ballroom
If not for Built To Spill leader Doug Martsch’s catchy, concise rock songs, and that signature wistful croon of his, the indie-rock saturation of the past decade may never have happened. But it did, and we’re probably the better for it. Although fans have come and gone through the years—some hailing Martsch’s windier extremes, others shrugging their shoulders at it—most gushed over 2006’s You In Reverse, an album full of thoughtful pop and guitar-rock heroism. A new album, There Is No Enemy, which features a number of guest musicians including ex-Treepeople member Scott Schmaljohn, is due for release in October.
