Call Me Lightning, John The Savage, and Absolutely at Cactus Club
Call Me Lightning has long been one of Milwaukee’s most popular indie-rock bands, packing clubs with its roaring mix of arena-rock stomp and punk-rock energy. The band’s 2010 album, When I Am Gone My Blood Will Be Free, is a typically hard-charging yet tuneful collection of songs—imagine if Tommy-era Who cut its teeth in Milwaukee’s Riverwest basement scene—and was easily the city’s best local record last year. There’s been no word on new material from the band, though hearing When I Am Gone’s giddily epic rockers blasted live is unlikely to grow old any time soon. Opener John The Savage is a carnivalesque six-piece that became the city’s most talked about group a few years back, while Absolutely was one of the most hyped local groups of 2011.
