The camera obscura is a device that tricks the eye, and Glasgow’s Camera Obscura has a similar propensity for deceiving, even if it’s ever so slightly. The latest example is this year's My Maudlin Career, which isn’t as sigh-inducing as its title suggests. Instead, it’s a lot like Glasgow itself: foggy at first, but as you experience more, increasingly lush and delightful. The band shakes off Maudlin’s sadness for danceable closer “Honey In The Sun,” though the journey there is peppered with echoing melodies and confessional lyrics.
