Certain Stars, The Black Tape, and The Noise FM at Frank's Power Plant

If ’90s slacker rock ever had a home in Milwaukee, Certain Stars are its keepers. The group’s dirty pop riffs come off with a charged nonchalance, and are accompanied by catchy lyrics, thrumming bass, a tight drum kit, and the occasional handclap. Those with severe cases of Pavement nostalgia should find singles like “Highschoolalloveragain” welcome additions to their iPod repertoires. The band has just come out of the studio with a new 7-inch featuring “The Great Destroyer,” as well as a cover of The Magnetic Fields’ “Too Drunk To Dream.” If this is a sneak peek of what’s in store for Certain Stars’ next full-length, the group is headed in the right direction.
