The Chain, Jonathan Burks, and The Trusty Knife at Linneman's
The Chain might be Milwaukee’s most mysterious great band—until recently it hadn’t made a record or even created a MySpace page. But the group’s infrequent live shows usually draw a big crowd thanks to its virtuosic take on ’70s funk via trippy prog-rock. If you didn’t know any better, you could almost mistake The Chain for a jam band for the way the guitar solos extend and upend its mind-bending instrumentals. Earlier this year it released a self-titled five-track EP, but live is still the best way to experience The Chain.
