Chris Cornell and William Elliott Whitmore at The Pabst Theater
Chris Cornell warned that his most recent solo outing, Scream, would be a significant departure from his days in Soundgarden and Audioslave. The collaboration between Cornell and hip-hop/R&B super-producer Timbaland was as odd as you’d expect, an overproduced, electro-rock monstrosity that stalled on the Billboard charts. Appropriately, the time since Scream has been all about fan service for Cornell: reunion gigs with Soundgarden, the heavy-as-hell single “Black Rain,” and taking time off from the recording of a new Soundgarden album to embark on an acoustic solo tour covering his entire career.
