Collective Neurosis at Sugar Maple
Free jazz might not have a huge local audience, but fans of the genre are probably familiar with Collective Neurosis, an improvisation-based group that has garnered airplay on WMSE’s Tuesday morning “Dr. Sushi's Free Jazz Barbecue.” Collective Neurosis was formed in 2004 by saxophone/clarinet player Frank Marquardt and drummer Carl Raven, a Milwaukee music fixture going back to the ’60s who famously played bass in local beat group export (and Where The Action Ishouse band) The Robbs. Except something a little less peppy and far more musically accomplished here.
