Crappy Dracula and Eureka California at Circle-A Cafe
There are two kinds of stupidity—intentional and unintentional—and it actually takes quite a bit of smarts to pull off the former without being completely unbearable. Milwaukee punk-rock trio Crappy Dracula pulls off the trick perfectly on last year’s excellent Fantastic Dracula!, which gleefully tackles such pressing subjects as blimp heists, computers that watch television, and funeral homes equipped with free Wi-Fi. Musically, the band has moved away from the lo-fi scuzz-punk of its debut album, Almost, and embraced a cleaner—though no less irreverent—sound that calls to mind the best work of early Dead Milkmen.
