Crappy Dracula, Plexi 3, Group Of The Altos, and The Gusto at Stonefly Brewing Company
There are two kinds of stupidity—intentional and unintentional—and it actually takes quite a bit of smarts to pull off the former without being completely unbearable. Milwaukee punk-rock trio Crappy Dracula strikes a willfully moronic pose on its full-length debut, Almost—including a literal pose on the hilariously dumb album cover—with songs about frolicking amid hospital waste (“Hospital Waste Management Facility”), taking the piss out of pretentious artist types (“Art, Explained”), and the perils of growing up (the self-explanatory “Reverse Puberty”). Musically, Crappy Dracula’s lo-fi scuzz-punk scoffs at technical proficiency in favor of simple, primal melodies that somehow crawl their way out of the murk. It might seem sub-mental, but Crappy Dracula clearly knows what it’s doing. This show celebrates the release of Almost.
