David Byrne and St. Vincent at The Riverside Theater
It makes some sort of crazy, mixed-up sense that two artists as distinctive and well-coiffed as David Byrne (a.k.a. the former frontman of Talking Heads) and St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) would eventually find each other. After striking up a friendly relationship in 2009 (and accompanying one another to a White House Correspondents’ Dinner, of all things), the two decided that the universe would probably be a better place with a David Byrne/St. Vincent collaboration. This fall, that collaboration finally comes to fruition with Love This Giant, an album featuring 10 tracks co-written by Byrne and Clark, along with one solo track each. Oh, and there’s more: The album eschews the traditional guitar/drum/bass lineup, instead going the oft-untraveled brass-band/drum-programming route. Why not?
