Dosh, Haley Bonar, Zoo Animal, and Algebro at Cactus Club

Consider it a testament to Martin Dosh’s electronic wizardry that his live show is somehow more impressive than his intricate, layered records. He doesn’t just recreate his complex collages of looped audio; he composes something new on the fly, surrounded by banks of keyboards and samplers. The last couple of years saw much of Dosh’s time go into his stellar musical partnership with Andrew Bird, but in 2010 he released Tommy, a tribute to his late friend and sound engineer Tom Cesario. Recently, he’s teamed up with Andrew Broder, formerly of Fog, as part of The Cloak Ox. Singer-songwriter Haley Bonar, meanwhile, recently released her most accessible album to date, 2011’s Golder. Finding new confidence in her strong voice, Bonar sounds right and comfortable on the surging “Candy Machine Gun” and the bouncy piano pop of “Bad For You.”
