Emily Forst, The Thriftones, and Cory Gorman at Linneman's
Fronted by singer Matthew Davies, The Thriftones can best be described as folk with a generous helping of Americana roots. Davies has a real talent in crafting songs about darker ideas and images within our country, while his band backs these concepts up with a shadowy rockabilly beat. “Anywhere USA” has Davies giving his take on run-down small towns behind an almost carefree sound, while “Home” opens with a piercing harmonica that blends into picking guitars reminiscent of old country soul. One of Davies’ newer songs, “She’s Too Hip” branches out into a more ominous world of women with red lips and pistols in the glove box.
