Empires, Fossils, and Overtalk at Cactus Club
Like an unholy blend of Kings Of Leon and Interpol, Empires are made to rock the masses in an entirely palatable fashion. It might not be setting any ears on fire, but the band was good enough for Rolling Stone—the diminished music rag and its readers cared enough for Empires’ stylish sound that the band came this close to being dubiously awarded a cover story. Frontman Sean Van Vleet can belt out an anthem as well as any Followill brother, though he stumbles a little when he tries to go full Patrick Stump. Still, he’s got vocal prowess, and it totally carries the band’s debut full-length, Howl, and the recent follow-up, Garage Hymns.
