Legacies can be a tricky thing. For proof, look no further than the “Experience Hendrix” tribute tour, which finds a murderers’ row of wanky guitar virtuosos taking on classic Jimi Hendrix tunes. The show is something of a strange beast, and seemingly only one precarious step away from a full-blown “laser spectacular.” The tour features old dogs like Joe Satriani and Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford (the one that’s not Joe Perry) sharing the stage with young bucks like Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The real draw, however, is the presence of Billy Cox, the original bassist for the Band Of Gypsys. Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi, and Living Colour round out the overstuffed, all-star bill.
