Fambly Fun!, This Is Indian Land, and Up North at Mad Planet

The experimental hip-hop of Fambly Fun! has served as a highly prolific outlet for Corey Murphy and John Praw Kruse of Pushmi-Pullyu to uncork some of the most outlandish ideas bouncing around their heads. The Madison group’s 2011 full-length, The Machine—dubbed a “hip-hopera”—started as a soundtrack to a hypothetical sequel to Space Jam and eventually turned into an epic adventure album involving robot unicorns and laser-armed octopi with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Tonight’s show serves as an anti-gun violence benefit (Fambly Fun’s guitarist was mugged and shot through the leg in Milwaukee last year), with proceeds going to the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort.
