Far removed from the recent Jay/Conan drama, George Lopez has been quietly plugging away on his own late-night show, the crude, critically drubbed Lopez Tonight. Though the show claims to "bring the party back to late night," nothing about it warrants much celebration—a recent bit that dropped the cast of the Jersey Shore into Oscar-nominated films was about as inspired as a typical segment of Leno's "Jaywalking." Still, Lopez's manic energy makes even the most warmed-over bits seem fresh, a quality that benefits his raucous stand-up. Thursday’s appearance at The Riverside finds the Latino funnyman in the middle of his “Tall, Dark, & Chicano” tour, where he’ll no doubt tweak his nice-guy image with a healthy dose of raunch.
