Glen Campbell and Instant People at The Pabst Theater

Glen Campbell was introduced to later generations as a challenger to Nick Nolte for most grizzled mug shot and via his 2008 album Meet Glen Campbell, which found him covering everything from Jackson Browne to The Replacements. But before the rough edges seeped into his life, he was the baby-faced country troubadour behind smooth-as-glass numbers like “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “By The Time I Get To Phoenix.” Like any good crossover artist, Campbell offers just enough twang to get away with slipping an easy soaring version of The Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These” and more standard fare like “Wichita Lineman” into a set and still having people believe it’s a country show. Campbell announced the sad news last summer that he’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and that his recently-released Ghost On The Canvas, and this tour in support of it, will be the last he’ll do.
