Group Of The Altos at Cascio Interstate Groove Stage (Summerfest)

Group Of The Altos has described itself as “a surly high-school orchestra,” and that’s actually not too far off: The Milwaukee group’s expansive lineup includes cello, trumpet, and clarinet. Founded by Daniel Spack of Collections Of Colonies Of Bees, Group Of The Altos started out a few years ago with the intention of writing and performing just one song, a 43-minute epic called “Rake, Rasp, And Ruin." The band has since moved on to other songs—including the relatively accessible “…So Should You Try To Live Mine”—but don't come expecting easily digestible pop tunes. GOTA creates pocket symphonies that swell and recede in unpredictable fits and starts.
