Group Of The Altos, Cages, Helen Money, and Jon Mueller at Cactus Club

Group Of The Altos describes itself as “a surly high-school orchestra,” and that’s actually not too far off: The Milwaukee group’s expansive lineup includes cello, trumpet, and clarinet. Founded by Daniel Spack of Collections Of Colonies Of Bees, Group Of The Altos started out a few years ago with the intention of writing and performing just one song, a 43-minute epic called “Rake, Rasp, And Ruin." The band has since moved on to other songs, but don't come expecting three-minute pop tunes. Here Group Of The Altos is joined by experimental cellist Helen Money, who gets a frightening tone by playing through a guitar amp. The ominous nature of Money's cello has attracted unlikely collaborators like Anthrax, Bob Mould, and Disturbed.
